The Tin Can API has reached version 1.0

The world just changed.   It’s been almost three years since we began working with ADL to conceive the next generation of SCORM. Today, we are proud to announce the release of the Tin Can API, version 1.0.

What does it mean for you?   The Tin Can API is a lot more than just “the next version of SCORM. ” It’s a completely new e-learning standard that allows you to do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Mobile learning, serious games, tracking learning outside of the LMS, and many other things can be tracked in one central place. Collecting Tin Can statements from every learning activity means that you can see all of your learning data together.   How does it work?   Tin Can enables learning activities to generate statements in the form of “a user did this”. These statements are stored in a Learning Record Store (LRS). The LRS can accept Tin Can statements from anywhere, and LRSs can share Tin Can statements with each other.

Who’s using it?   Even as a beta version, almost 60 products/companies started using the Tin Can API. With the official release of version 1.0, the flood gates are now open and adoption is expected to increase dramatically. If you’re not using Tin Can now, you likely will be in the near future.
